Why should I invest in family photography?

There are a lot of questions once you get to wanting to book a photographer, but the first one is why should I? In a world where there is about a billion things to spend hard earned money on, why should this be a priority?

I think personally, the question is less of a "why?" and more of a "who is it for?" For me, I think there are three answers.

The first is for you, the parent, or caregiver (or both, obviously). You are putting in the long

and often thankless hours day in and day out to allow your family to thrive. I'm guessing you also have a phone filled with pictures of your kids. I would also guess they are often some combination of sticky faces, pajamas, and chaos. I get it, that's my camera roll too. But what's missing is you. And I don't mean the struggle to get your arm to stretch selfie. It's not to say those don't have a place too. We will look back on them with nostalgia without a doubt. BUT...there is something a bit different, and more celebratory about family photography, especially beautiful lifestyle shoots. Not only can you plan to look and feel your best, but your beauty and the love in your family will be captured through the eye of an artist. What makes your family connection magic will come through and you will have those images to cherish. You deserve that celebration.

The second "for" is your little ones. As we know, while we get to cherish the memories of our children, theirs often fades. They will love having these pictures some day. I know that my favorite two images are one of my mom and I when I was a baby taken by a photographer in my nursery, and a studio image of my husband and his mom when he was about a year old. That image has become even more special as it is our daughters introduction to the beautiful person she was.

The last "for" is our village. We all know that without the support of our loved ones, this parenting journey is infinitely harder. Being able to share beautiful family portraits, whether at the holidays, or as a gift for that grandpa that's impossible to by for (maybe I'm projecting a little here) is a wonderful way to connect with loved ones and share your lives.

To sum it all up...why should we invest in family photography? To celebrate the incredible family and life you have created. And to have this very fleeting moment in your little ones lives captured. They will thank you someday, and I am confident you will thank yourself too.
